School Culture

Visitors to Village Prep will quickly see that the school environment is focused.  The teachers are intent, and every minute is used fully.  There are high expectations even of youngsters, and it is clear that we are in school to go to college.  Kindergarten classrooms are named and decorated for colleges (typically the alma mater of the teacher).  There are 30 students in each Village Prep kindergarten classroom, and two teachers.   

Characteristics that make Village Prep unique are these:

• High level of structure, engaging students every minute of the day with systems that are designed to increase time on task and overall student performance;
• High academic expectations, with particular emphasis on academic rigor, clear expectations, and accountable talk;
• Frequent assessment of students to determine which standards have been mastered and which standards deserve review and remediation;
• Strong character development that will build and foster responsibility and perseverance;
• An enforced uniform policy- all students are in dark pants/skirts/dresses and white shirt, daily.

Students are in class from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. during which time they are provided with breakfast, morning snack, and lunch.
