Village Prep teachers administered the state-required Kindergarten Readiness Assessment for Literacy (KRA-L) in September of this year. Many of the kindergarten students indicated a need for intensive instruction and/or further assessment in order to be prepared for reading. Specific results are shown below:
        31 students scored a 25 or higher (high) 34%
        24 students scored a 24 – 20 (average) 27%
        15 students scored a 19 – 15 (below average) 17%
        20 students scored a 14 or lower (low) 22%
The test shows that 39% of the students should be further assessed for intense or targeted instruction.

In addition, the students were given the DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment) and this test will be used throughout the year to measure growth. Results of the first two administrations are show below:
        October 2009:
61% scored at Level A (which is below Level 1)
                11% scored at Level 1
                27% scored at Level 2
                1% scored at Level 3
        December 2009:
                12% scored at Level A
                10% scored at Level 1
                23% scored at Level 2
                18% scored at Level 3
                32% scored at Level 4
                5% scored at Level 6

Our goal is to have 85% of students reading at Level 12 by the end of the year. Level 12 is designated as a mid-year first grade benchmark. As of Januay 2010, 55% are currently at a first grade level, up from 1% at the beginning of the school year.  Internal assessments based upon the Ohio benchmarks for kindergarten show these results:
87% of kindergarteners meeting goals in Math
82% of kindergarteners meeting goals in Reading
